Unleashing the Full Potential of Concrete Additive Construction

ARC-Lab for 3D concrete: from research to practical applications

Additive construction (AC) is transforming the construction industry by integrating digital design, robotic manufacturing, and advanced concrete materials. The Additive and Robotic Construction Laboratory (ARC-Lab) at Rowan University develops AC technologies across material development, robotic fabrication, structural systems, and digital monitoring. The laboratory has developed cement-based, fibre-reinforced, cementless geopolymer, and underwater-printable materials and demonstrated complex structures. Ongoing research extends these capabilities to 3D-printed prestressed bridge rocking columns, structurally optimized concrete flexural beams with stress-trajectory reinforcement, and ocean-derived cementless materials for underwater construction. Together, these efforts demonstrate the potential of AC to address emerging challenges in sustainable infrastructure, resilient structural systems, and construction in demanding environments.
