“Big C” – Sustainable urban furniture

Corrugated cardboard formwork and carbon concrete

Developed in collaboration between the Lightweight Structures in Civil Engineering Research Group at TU Chemnitz, Medicke GmbH, the Steinbeis Innovation Centre FiberCrete, and the City of Chemnitz, this distinctive and sustainable piece of urban furniture was created as part of the Cultural Capital 2025 initiative. The structure consists of a C-shaped carbon concrete shell mounted on a trapezoidal concrete base. The seating surfaces can be fitted with ergonomically shaped wooden slats, enhancing user comfort.
